In Flicka Friends

The registry records hull #209 as Nana, though Flicka Friends knows her only as Mojo, sailing Lake Michigan under Bill Overman, who wrote up two substantial projects for the newsletter. The first, in #38 (Spring 2006), was a boom gallows carrying both a solar panel and a wind generator - about fifty pounds aft, offset by roughly 200 pounds of lead glassed into the forward bilge to balance the mast-mounted radar and furling gear. He reported the whole assembly unmoved by 30 to 35 knots on a beam reach and a run, and noted that on longer passages he swapped the 100-pound 9.9 hp Honda four-stroke for a lighter six-horse two-stroke he could still lift off the transom bracket underway.

In #40 (Fall 2006) he described replacing all six portlights with Newfound Metals bronze ports, finding rot in the balsa core around the old openings, and making stained plywood frames, sandwiched inboard between portlight and bulkhead, to shrink the flange that protrudes outside and snags legs on the sidedeck. Thinking the two large aft ports a weakness offshore, he went on to build bolt-on fibreglass storm shutters for them. The same article carries a brokerage photo of her in Florida and records that, after she arrived in Wisconsin, her hull and scrollwork were painted. She was kept at Oconto and appeared on that issue's cover sailing on the lake; she was to have crossed to the Beaver Island rendezvous in June 2007, but boatyard work overran and the gathering was cancelled.
