In Flicka Friends
James Boles wrote up the replacement of Mira's bowsprit in Flicka Friends #37 (Winter 2005). The original factory spar, apparently fir, had rotted and split along a glue line, and the cranze iron had to be chiseled off it. He laminated a new one from seven layers of yellow cedar and finished it bright with tung oil, leaving out the taper the factory sprit had so the platform could be bolted a little lower and closer to the centre of the spar; the most forward bolt was replaced with a longer one in anticipation of an inner stay. A detail photograph of the finished yellow cedar bowsprit runs alongside the article.
John Hazen met Mira and her owner, Jamie, out of Ganges Harbour on his 2014 cruise north from Rosario into Canada, reported in Flicka Friends #61 (Summer 2014).
